2012 in review

The WordPress.com team have done this nifty little thing that summarizes my activity on my blog for the past year. Quite interesting really…have a look!!

I would like to take this moment to thank all my readers for their interest in my weird and often chaotic life. My aim for getting awareness raised about cystic fibrosis is really taking off…and I have each and every one of you to thank for that!

So from my little herd, HAPPY NEW YEAR…and I really hope to see you all around here (and maybe a little more vocal?? 😀 ) again in 2013!

Bella 🙂

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 6,800 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 11 years to get that many views.

Still Alive!

Did you miss me?

The last few weeks have been rather busy, I needed to give the brain a break from writing. I have so many topics swirling around this big boof-head of mine that are going to make appearances over the next few weeks. Many updates to come.

So keep an eye out!

Parenting blog

I recently received at letter from one of my followers asking if I would please spread the word of her own blog.

I don’t mind doing this, especially if I think it has something significant to say about the causes I believe in, or if it’s a great read. Suzanne’s blog is both!

This post is called 10 Bad Eating Habits Parents Often Teach Their Children. I have to admit that even though I am very strict on my children’s diet, I am guilty of some of these traits.

Which ones are you guilty of?

Have a look around at the site. There are some great articles on there!

New goals

The first step is admitting it. I am overweight. I have been for quite some time. I have heard that putting it out in public, such as blogging, can help you maintain focus. So that is what I am doing.

I know how I got to this point. Put simply, I love my food! Having four kids certainly helped to pile on the kilos, but I’m not blaming my kids for my weaknesses. I put on 20kg during my pregnancy with my first pregnancy, and 10kg with the subsequent two.

Blasted baby weight!

I didn’t gain any weight with my youngest, but I believe the fact that he had to draw so much energy out of me to keep himself alive due to the CF, so I call him my little “life sucking force”

I craved eggs with my first pregnancy, tomato sauce (which went best on top of a meat pie…of course) during my second pregnancy, cold glasses of Coke during my third, and funnily enough, juicy fruits ie. watermelon and strawberries with my fourth.

The fact I fell pregnant so quick after each child didn’t give me much opportunity to lose any baby weight. Then there is also the fact, I didn’t exactly try to lose it in between pregnancies either.

Then I fell into the trap of going along with the high fat/high salt diet that my youngest has to have for his cystic fibrosis. It is so easy to grab a few chips, eat a few lollies….etc.

So, my husband is being supportive and going on a diet with me (since I tend to fall off the bandwagon rather quickly once he has reached his goal weight) We are currently following the Rapid Loss program. It’s very easy and uses simple science rather than gimmicks.

We started two days ago, and I have lost 1.5kg already! It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a start.

I just want a friggin cheeseburger!

I am restricted to 1200 calories a day (my husband can have 1500 a day). We are trying out new recipes, which I am going to share on my blog. So far, the food has been pretty good (though last night’s Cajun Chicken didn’t go quite so well. We may need to tweak a few ingredients!) The hardest thing I am dealing with right now is finding meals that I can take for lunch while I am at work, which is non-stop and you dont really have time to have a proper meal. Basically, I know need to get my butt in gear and make the salads the night before.

My goal is to lose 35-40kg (I know…woah!!) So follow along, give advice, kick me up the bum if I need it, or grab some ideas yourself!

Yes…I am still here. I haven’t melted away in the world-wide web abyss! You can’t get rid of me that easy!

Work is exceptionally busy (I may have mentioned before that my husband and I own a cleaning business?) and with Christmas coming up, it doesn’t look to be slowing down any time soon.

I have heaps of topics swirling around in my head. I just need the time…and energy…to type them all out.

The winner is…ME!!!

I can be fairly egotistical. When it comes to my blog, I am so proud of it that I can help but brag about it. Just recently, thanks to some good friends spreading the word about this site, the amount of daily views has skyrocketed, as has the amount of fans on my Facebook fan page. I have been given heaps of ideas for blog topics. Thank you to all!

But I am writing this post because I have something new to brag about…I have been given the Kreative Blogger award!! The very lovely, A Morning Grouch, sent the award over (don’t be fooled by the name!)

It’s a great feeling knowing that people are enjoying my little rants and mindless dribble!

Now, there are stipulations in behind accepting the award. I have to reveal seven things about myself, and pass the award on to ten other bloggers. So here we go:

Revelation 1: I am scared of the dark and the ocean. Both fears started when I was about 15 years old. The fear of darkness started when I thought that someone was walking up the side of our house, and standing outside my bedroom window for about six months. I used to hear leaves crunching up the side passage, stop outside my window, and the walk back after about half an hour. I never had the guts to peer out, but was so scared I started sleeping with a screwdriver ready to stab anyone who came through the window!

The fear of the ocean started around the same time, but have no explanation as to why. I used to love swimming at the beach. All of a sudden, if I couldn’t see the bottom, I would panic and not go any further. My husband thinks I’m weird that I never want to go on a cruise ship because of my fear of the ocean.

Revelation 2: I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome. It hurts like all buggery!! An IBS attack is more painful than labour (and I have had four of those…two of them had no pain relief!) Pork triggers that attacks for me. I would give anything to be able to eat  roast pork, or sweet and sour pork…but its not worth the pain!

Revelation 3: I’m a massive Joss Whedon fan. I love all his shows, obsessive really. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly….love ’em!

Revelation 4:  I’m a huge fan of historical romances. Julie Garwood is my favourite author, you should definitely check her out. “Ransom” is by far her best book, it was the first one I ever read. She also does modern-day thriller/romances.

Revelation 5: I completely, 100%, believe in ghosts.

Revelation 6: I was heavily involved in netball. I played, I coached, I umpired. I was better at the latter two. I did all three at a regional level regularly. As a player, I was average. I used to play up to five times a week, as a defence player. Wing Defence was my best position. The teams I coached always did pretty well. I was also picked to go to a state umpiring camp once. I was the youngest person there, at the age of thirteen. I miss netball. I stopped getting involved due to work commitments, then kids came along. Now, pregnancy messed up my Achilles heel that I probably wont be able to play again.

Revelation 7: I am ashamed to say I was insanely obsessed with Twilight. I honestly don’t know what came over me. Usually, hype turns me off a movie or book. I have never become so obsessed with anything in my life. It was all I talked about for months, I could not put the books down and I scoured the internet for any goss I could get. I’m am now proud to say I have been completely rehabilitated. I still enjoy the books and movies, but I can now shut the book, turn the tv off….and forget about it!
